Finally, Lai started his cutting

As mentioned in the last post, Lai finally start his cutting, which in bodybuilding means reduce the body fat while maintain the muscle mass as more as possible. When you see those magazine with before and after pictures, those are normally from guys doing bulking and cutting, so do not believe what the magic bills they try to sell you.

Lai started at about 70kg, end up with 91kg. At first he want to go to 100kg, but no matter how hard he tried, it just did not work. Lai's best mate in the gym, Jason, who is slightly taller than Lai, bulked to 100kg in half year and cut to 75kg in very short time, the result made Lai mouth watering, and damn jealous. However, maybe Jason is only 20, full of grow hormone, Lai has to admit his disadvantage. Meanwhile, genetic reason is another excuse, as normally oriental guys seldom good at muscle building. Black guys normally has the best gene, you can often see black guys who never go to gym, hardy can lift 60kg dumbbells has great muscle definition. Of course there are exceptions, but general rules do hold.

There are two main reasons which made Lai hesitate for cutting. First is the achievement you may get from bulking. After years gym working without weight gain, once you can finally see some result on the scale. That kind of feeling will push you go further and further. Years ago, when Lai see a big guy in the gym with a slightly showing belly. He will immediately think,"eh, I don not want to be like that, that is just fat, do not understand why people want to be like that..." However, now is his turn, and he suddenly know how hard it is.

The second reason is, Lai worried if he cut hard, he will end up with not much left. For Jason, he built quite a big frame when bulking. That is why he looks so good once he shred the fat off and uncover the muscle beneath. However Lai worried, he is not big enough yet, esp his chest , the weakest part of him. He now got huge legs, arms, solid back, but the chest is still lacking... And unfortunately, pec seems the most important muscle for people to judge you, esp. for gay men, we all heard "no pecs, no sex".




Lai finally decided to start cutting is because his recent funny experience. On the night before his interview, he got out his suits, ties etc. He found none of them fit him, none of the trousers fit, some he barely can put his legs in. The biggest shirt he got can hardly contain his upper body. He can not move his arms properly, has to hold them in a awkward position. The funniest part is, even his neck seems grow a lot, as he can not button it to put on a tie. You can image how embrassed he was in the early morning interview the following day.

Once he decided, everything goes smoothly, the first week, from 91 to 88, the second week to 86. However, the weight reduce too fast may cause loose too much hard earned muscle, which is all he try to avoid. 3 weeks now, Lai 's waist size is down 1.5 inches, he is sure 2 months later, he will get his abs back, finger crossed he will still hold most the mass he want.
